Fors is a painter, engraver, musician, writer, screenwriter and filmmaker. At the young age of nine he arrived in Mexico and settled in the city of Guadalajara, years later he migrated to Mexico City, where he studied drawing while working his first job as a singer in a cafe. In 1975 he takes a short course in drawing at a public school in Miami, Florida, and takes an anatomical drawing class with Master Roberto Martinez for more than three years, during which time he begins to paint in oils.
In 1980 he returns to Guadalajara, where he begins teaching drawing independently. In 1982 he mounted “Nosotros los Cobardes”, an exhibition that put him in the spotlight as an emerging artist. In 1996 he was naturalized as a Mexican citizen and in 2004 the University of Guadalajara launched the book José Fors 25 Years, which shows Fors' career as an artist, accompanied by a major retrospective exhibition at the Museo de las Artes Universidad de Guadalajara. Currently, Fors carries out his pictorial work on a daily basis in Zapopan, Jalisco.
